As part of our new and improved Wanderlusting travel the newest member of our team sat down with me and we had a chat about what we love about travel and we thought we would share that conversation with you, our lovely readers.

Kirsty – International Travel Consultant and Travel Blogger.

How long have you been working in travel?

Nearly 4 years

Countries Visited so far

New Zealand, Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Monaco, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Greece, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States and Thailand.

Favourite Country and why?

Hands down it has to be Turkey – History, culture, stunning views amazing people and delicious food – need I say more.

Favourite Holiday Memory and why?

Being at Gallipoli for the 100th ANZAC Day Centenary back in 2015, because it was such an honour to be picked to be one of the 10,000 Kiwis and Australians that got to be a part of such an amazing historical event.

Favourite food?

Anything from the Mediterranean, olives, feta, tomatoes, Turkish, Greek, Italian – I love it all!!!!!

Favourite movie that inspired you to travel somewhere?

Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants – I fell in love with Santorini because of that film and I finally made it there earlier this year.

Favourite song that reminds you of another country?

Jack Johnson’s – Better Together it always reminds me of my holidays to Hawaii!!!!!

Favourite travel product/gadget?

My electronic scale – I never travel with out it. Airlines are cracking down on baggage weight big time at the moment. Some airlines are even going as far as to weigh hand luggage now. So this little device saves me from the horrendous last-minute airport excess baggage charges.

Favourite thing about travelling?

Going off the beaten track a bit and talking with the locals it’s the only way to get to really know a country. I have met some truly awesome people around the world.

Destination you really want to visit next?

Croatia and the Balkans

One thing you cannot travel without – aside from a passport.

My DSLR Camera, It’s the first thing I pack, and is with me everywhere I go, I have even had nightmares before travelling that I have left it behind.

Car, plane, boat or train?

Funnily enough I hate flying but love planes, but I will never turn down a road trip – have car, will travel.

Ever had a Holiday disaster?

Yes – My last trip to Turkey. We were in Cappadocia, during spring and it started snowing, our car got stuck in a ditch at the bottom of a hill and we had to drag our suitcases up the hill to our hotel. Once we got there we got all warmed up and into bed only to wake in the middle of the night with a bout of food poisoning but it all just adds to the adventure of the trip.

One destination you were really surprised by and why?

Texas, I never imagined I would ever get there, and I completely fell under its charm. I highly recommend going there, especially the Dallas and Fort Worth area if you wanna see some real life Texan Cowboys

Best travel tip

Take a copy or a picture of all your important documents – passport, drivers license, credit cards then email it to your self. Why? Because if anything gets stolen or lost (including your phone) You will be able to access a copy of everything, which will make it so much easier to cancel and apply for a new one while you are overseas. I also email all flight and hotel details to my email, and a copy of my insurance so I always have it and can access it from anywhere.

And finally what is it about Travel that makes you so passionate?

Being immersed in a foreign culture is a very humbling and rejuvenating experience. There is nothing more special than the ability to be able to travel and experience the world.
